November 2008

When we were returning from our trip to New England for a symposium on choral music, we were delayed for four days in Houston by Hurricane Dolly. We returned to find some minor damage which was quickly repaired. Then, when we were returning from our trip to Mexico and Guatemala for a number of weeks of ministry, we found that Hurricane Ike was breathing down our necks but then it turned and hit Houston instead.

Arleen and I were able to sing and play both in Mexico and Guatemala on this last tour. The main reason for this trip was to hold workshops on biblical worship and music composition for the anniversary of the School of Sacred Music at the Central American Theological Seminary. It was a thrill to find many of our former students serving faithfully in leadership.

These past few weeks have been a time of anxiety and even panic for most of the world. According to the Wall Street Journal, the stock market has lost $8.3 trillion in value this year. A very tiny part of that is our retirement savings. It’s such a blessing to be a part of the family of God and be able to rest in the promises of His care for His own children! We don’t know how all of this will affect the ministry of the Rio Grande Bible Institute and our own personal needs, we can be certain that our Heavenly Father will faithfully care for us. We read in Phil. 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”    This promise was made especially to those who were supporting a missionary… the apostle Paul!

Right now we need to cover the expense of a new computer for recording purposes. Along with the Pro-Tools recording program we are asking the Lord to supply the sum of $2,250. We took that amount out of our retirement program to cover those expenses. Thanks for praying!

In addition to our classes at RGBI, we are devoting a number of hours each day in editing the music we are about to publish. We also continue to spend much time recording—singing, playing, listening, reviewing, mixing and praying that the first CD of this project will soon become a reality. Starting with Genesis, we include at least one song from every book in the Bible. This week we hope to finish the first recording that contains over 30 arrangements based on key passages from the Scriptures. Thank you for your important part in this project.
