In our Christmas letter to you we described our three-month sabbatical trip in the fall when we traveled mainly in the upper Midwest for some 9,000 miles. Many have called or written us personal messages of greetings and encouragement regarding that trip. Those notes were a great blessing to us.
It is so exciting to be a part of the Spring semester here at the Rio Grande Bible College. We have students from 19 countries studying the Word of God and related courses such as music and the Spanish language for future missionaries.
The pastor of our local church here on the Mexican border in the Rio Grande Valley where we both worship and minister invited me to participate in a week-long ministry to pastors who lead churches in Managua, Nicaragua. I purchased round-trip tickets so I would be able to sing and play many of the songs and hymns I have written over the years. I had the joy to meet and greet people who had previously studied with us in Guatemala at the Central American Theological Seminary, the Guatemalan Bible Institute in Chimaltenango, or more recently at the Rio Grande Bible College where we are still ministering. I need to remind you that it is due to your faithfulness in praying for us and giving toward our ministry that this trip was possible.
In the forenoons there were three sermons delivered by different guest speakers from a number of countries. In the evenings Pastor Mendoza had rented the gymnasium of the University of Managua where about 2,000 attended the meetings which were evangelistic. Praise the Lord, many young people made decisions of faith in Christ. The local churches had prepared a small orchestra that played one specially arranged piece and then accompanied three hymns that were sung each evening. I enjoyed playing in that ensemble. Then I had the privilege of singing and playing an original number each evening also. I was thrilled that the Lord blessed our efforts to present music with Bible-based words and He promised to not let His Holy Word return void.
